SCCIPA Announces New Contract with SCAN Health Plan

SCCIPA will be joining the SCAN Health Plan physician network, effective January 1, 2010. As a result, enrollees have a new option when selecting their Medicare Advantage plan during the Medicare annual enrollment period.

Unlike most health plans, SCAN has no commercial members, which allows it to focus all of its energy and resources in serving the unique needs of seniors and understanding them better. While SCAN is new to Northern California, it has been serving seniors and working closely with physicians in California for more than 30 years.

Over that time SCAN has grown to become the fourth largest not-for-profit Medicare Advantage plan in the nation and one of the fastest growing health plans in the California. Currently, SCAN serves more than 110,000 members in Southern California and Arizona. Beginning January 1, 2010, SCAN will offer its Medicare Advantage plan for the first time in Santa Clara County.

"We have a strong commitment to growth and retention in this market,” said SCAN President and CEO Dave Schmidt. Growth has been a key part of SCAN’s recent history. The company has doubled its membership in the past five years thanks to a reputation for member-centric services coupled with competitive benefit plans.
